I have had a number of queries regarding the new Columbarium Wall at Springfield Cemetery, both seeking an update on the service and some looking for information on what a Columbarium Wall is.

For clarity, what is a Columbarium Wall?

What is a Columbarium Wall - A Columbarium Wall can be a very common feature in many cemeteries, reflecting the increasing use of cremation and the ever-increasing demand for burial ground in the cemeteries, therefore many cemeteries can now provide a columbarium with a separate space where family urns can be stored and provide a place for a wide circle of friends and family to visit. (Definition taken from the Irish Columbarium Services website http://www.irishcolumbariumservices.ie/ )

With regard to the service in Bray, the following update has been provided by Wicklow County Council.

'Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the operation of specific elements of the Columbarium Wall were sought from suitably qualified contractors in June 2021. Wicklow County Council subsequently modified the EOI and it was re-advertised in August 2021. A contract for the provision of inscription services was awarded in September. We are currently waiting on a delivery of urns from Stone Source. Due to supply chain issues these have been delayed. Once the urns arrive the wall will become operational.'

If anyone has any specific queries, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
